PATRICK MURPHY & SONS GENERAL MERCHANDISE STORE

The General Store was named after Stephen’s great-grandfather, Patrick Murphy, who ran a general store in Chebanse, IL, in the 1800s. The store is filled with items collected by the Bakers over a 50 year period. The kerosene parlor light hanging in the store came from a mansion in Virginia City. It was stored for over 100 years in a camelback trunk in Adin, CA.  Thousands of items are on display, including the original coffee barrel from Patrick Murphy’s general store. The price tags reflect 1905 values.

The Bakers dismantled the General Store in 2016, and the building is now used for the Friends of the Modoc County Library June Jamboree book sale the last Saturday in June.
