AVIARY

The Aviary was built from materials salvaged from a neighbor’s 100 year old three story barn. The train passes through the rear of the building.  Birds in the Aviary include Chinese Red Golden pheasants, doves, and other feathered friends.  Peacocks & pea hens roam the property at will.  After the pea hens hatch out their chicks in the spring, they are moved into the Aviary to protect the chicks from predators. They are then released when they are fully grown.

Our Chinese Red Golden Pheasants display remarkable colors in the Aviary.

The large Aviary was built in three stages.  The first stage included the main building with the west wing, central tower, and east wing.  The three rooms are all connected with doors both with each other and with the outdoor pen.  The second stage involved building the outdoor pen which was complicated because of the height of the roof.  The third stage involved building a covered area at the rear of the main building that the train passes through just prior to entering the Railroad Station.

The pictures above and below show our neighbor’s 100 year old barn as Stephen dismantled it.  The materials from the barn were used in the Honeymoon Cottage roof rafters, the entire Aviary, and the Railroad Arbor in the lower field.
